Christmas in India is primarily a two day occasion with the Christmas Eve and the Christmas Day being the 2 significant parts. Christmas Eve is celebrated on the night of 24th December. Carol singing, preparing of home made cookies, cakes and puddings and visiting the church to attend the midnight mass are the most important happenings of the day. On Christmas day people visit churches, offer alms to the needy and even exchange gifts in many parts of the country.
Festivities of the Indian Christmas are not complete without the gift giving ceremony by Santa Claus! Therefore on Christmas Eve young children do make it a point to hang their socks in the balcony or roof tops for Santa to come and drop gifts for them.
